Corban art trip

Kia Ora,

In week 5 Hay Park went to the Corban art centre in West Auckland for an art session. Our class session was called tupuarangi-kai-in-the-sky. We learnt about the Matariki star cluster, focusing on Tupuārangi, the star associated with kai (food) that comes from the sky, primarily fruits and berries and ngā manu (the birds) that feed upon them.

We used caran-d’ache pastel for our manu sitting amongst its native berry food source. We loved the vibrate colours! We finish by learning about whenua paint (natural clay pigments) and will use this to reveal the Matariki night sky around their manu.

We loved this experience and can’t wait to go back again.

See if you can name all the Manu in our work?
